How do I join Two Rivers?
Download the online version of the application or call the Two Rivers phone number (449-0758) and request that an application be mailed to your address. Once your completed application and payment is received by our Membership chairperson, you are an active member of the club. You can retrieve your newsletter on line or you can wait until a hard copy is mailed to your address
Is there a minimum age to join Two Rivers?
Each member must be at least 18 years of age in order to sign the membership waiver.
What is the cost of joining?
Membership is $25 (plus $10 for each additional household member) annually.
If I have financial difficulty paying the membership fee, is there a scholarship available?
Yes. The Board will consider granting scholarships for membership on the basis of financial hardship.
What is the club about? What do you do in the club?
The Two Rivers Outdoor Club is committed to facilitating healthy physical and social activities that strengthen each member’s sense of identity, belonging and self-worth in a safe, non-threatening environment that is welcoming to all members of the GLBT community, including people who are new to the Capital Region and those who are just coming out.
How do I lead an event?
You may email the newsletter editors the date, time and particulars of the event you wish to host. Submissions are due by the 20th of each month in order to be published in the next month’s newsletter.
How do I sign up for an event?
Contact the person indicated as the leader for the event. It is important to RSVP and leave your phone number in case of any last minute cancellation.
Do I have to be athletic to participate in an outdoor event?
No, many events are for beginners. Most hosts will indicate the level of difficulty for the event in its description.
What other things besides outdoor events does the club do?
Club members often meet in local restaurants for dinner, at members’ homes for game night, at local book stores for a book club, and various outings to antiques fairs, etc. The options are as varied as our members’ interests.
What outdoor events are typical?
Hiking, biking, running, camping, rowing sports, and volleyball in the summer – skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, hiking in the winter – and many other options associated with the four seasons in this area.
Do you provide transportation?
With most events, particularly ones that are a distance from the Capital Region, there is almost always carpooling. Contact the host to find out if others will be carpooling.
Do you have potlucks or all-club gatherings?
We have the Annual Meeting and Picnic in July and have traditionally had an all-club CampOUT in September.
Do you meet people for relationships?
While Two Rivers’ focus is not to match people into relationships, many relationships have formed through meeting at our events. We wish for our events to be non threatening and non sexual, but you may you take it where you want to if you meet someone who interests you!
Are both women and men involved in the club?
Yes, both women and men are members of the club.
Are children and pets welcome?
You would need to check with the host of the event regarding the preferences for children and pets. Some settings and outings may not be appropriate for either population.
Who are the members?
Members represent the diversity of the GLBTQ community with all incomes, professions, race, creeds, religions and marital status.
Do you allow drugs or alcohol?
Drugs and alcohol are discouraged due to the physical nature of many activities. However at some of the gatherings in public places, such as the monthly dinners, where liquor is served and can be bought it is up to individual choice. It is advisable to ask participants in public settings if everyone in the group is comfortable. Some members are in recovery and we wish to be supportive. Events at members’ homes are alcohol free due to liability concerns.
If I miss placing an announcement in the newsletter, how do I let people know about an event I want to host?
Two Rivers has a Yahoo group and you may post an announcement on the group. Everyone who is registered on the group will receive your posting.
Does Two Rivers sell the membership list to other groups or publications?
Two Rivers does not share its list with other groups or publications under any circumstances.
Will my name or photo from events be anonymous?
Your name will not be published in the newsletter or on the website, unless you have given permission. Photos are not published in the newsletter or website unless every person in the each photo gives verbal permission.
